Remembering our Veterans:
A Celebration of Canadian Military History and our Veterans

The Canada Day Celebration in Port Moody BC was organized by Guy Black, Special Events Coordinator of the Port Moody Station Museum for the Port Moody Heritage Society. Funding for the event was provided by the Government of Canada and the Dutch Consulate in Vancouver.

Dignitaries attending included Mr. Luc Serot Almeras (Consular General of France), Mr. Hans Driesser (Consular General of the Netherlands), the Consul of the Korean Republic, James Moore (MP for Port Moody, Westwood, Port Coquitlam), Dawn Black (MP for New Westminster & Coquitlam), and Joe Trasolini (Mayor of Port Moody), Lieutenant Colonel Vince Larocque, CD (British Columbia Liaison Officer, Canadian Forces Liaison Council, 39 CBG), and Mr. E.J. Cooper (WWII Veteran, Canadian Army). They were escorted by an honour guard dressed in old khaki battledress uniforms.

Speeches and presentations were emceed by Deborra Hope of Global TV news.

The displays ranged from war memorabilia to real life vintage army jeeps, trucks, tracked vehicles and their appropriately uniformed drivers. The aviation museum displayed their full-sized exact reproduction of a Royal Canadian Air Force Bi-Plane. All small displays (war memorabilia, etc.) were located in the museum buildings. The larger displays of vehicles were setup in and around the museum compound. In all, sixteen groups participated, including two military bands. These were the 15th Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery Military Band "Bessborough Brass" and the BCR Pipe Band.

The Burma Star Association's display was coordianted by Robert Tanner (Secretary), assisted by Herb Lim (Force 136), Gordon Mumford (Merchant Navy), Harold and Maureen Thorp (RCAF 416 Squadron), and B. Mumford (webmaster). The Port Moody Heritage Society provided refreshments (sandwiches, doughnuts, cookies, soft drinks and water) to those participating in the exhibit.
