On the occasion of the visit of Prime Minister J.P. Balkenende to Vancouver BC, the Ambassador of the Netherlands invited Canadian veterans who were involved in the liberation of the Netherlands in 1944/45 to attend a ceremony to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. The ceremony was held at the Billy Bishop Legion Centre in Vancouver. The veterans were each presented with a medallion to mark the occasion. Among those attending were Percy Smith and Gordon Mumford of the Burma Star Association, BC Chapter.

The ceremonies will be held this year on August 24. The first service will take place at Stoltz Pool in the Cowichan National Park beginning at 10 am, and thereafter at the Duncan Cenotaph at 12 noon.

September 11 - Coquitlam Candlelight Ceremony - 2 pm
The Coquitlam Candlelight Tribute will be held at Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Robinson Street at Foster Avenue, Coquitlam at 2:00 pm.

Join Mayor George W. Peary, MP Ed Fast, KIA Mike de Jong and MIAJohn van Dongen as we honour Abbotsford's forgotten airmen at a special ceremony at the Cenotaph at Civic Plaza. Members of the Royal Canadian Airforce, the local Zone of the Canadian legion and local Air Cadet Squadrons will be in attendance to pay special tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The 12th Annual North Shore Candlelight Ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 11, at 6:00 pm at the North Vancouver Cemetery on Lillooet Road, just north of Capilano. It will commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the End of World War II. Following the commemorate tribute, Honoured Veterans, Military Personnel currently acting in Service to Canada, Dignitaries and Special Guests, will join with Youth participants, in placing lit candles around the Memorial Cross, and beside the over 800 white crosses on Veteran’s gravesites. Members of the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects by placing a candle, following the formal ceremony. A reception will be held at Boal Chapel following the Tribute.

On Sunday, November 14, a service was held at Charterhouse School to re-dedicate the renovated Memorial Tablet to Major General Orde Wingate. The ceremony was attended by members of the Chindits Old Comrades Association (C.O.C.A.). For details and photographs, please see Wingate Memorial
