Burma Star Association - B.C. Chapter
Most of my time was spent with Brigadier Bernard Ferguson in India and Burma at 16 Brigade HQ. During this time I met Lord Louis Mountbatten and General Orde Wingate.
The day Wingate was killed he asked me to arrange a flight for him to Imphal. As I recall, I advised him that flying conditions (i.e. the weather) were below normal and we couldn’t accommodate him. So then I arranged a local flight (at his request) to the American base where he boarded an American Mitchell bomber. It flew into a mountain and all were killed.
