Burnaby Village Museum - 6501 Deer Lake Ave, Burnaby
Admission is Free

Burnaby Village Museum will host the City of Burnaby’s official BC Day celebration on Monday, August 4, from 11 am to 4:30 pm, marking British Columbia’s 150th Anniversary with a Salute to our Veterans. In addition to saying Thank You to our British Columbian veterans, the event will also mark the 90th Anniversary of the end of the First World War and the 55th Anniversary of the Korean War Cease Fire.

The Burma Star Association BC Branch will join with other British Columbia organizations in celebrting this event. Living history, music, cultural performances and real life experiences told by veterans will make this event a truly unique and memorable experience for everyone. Over 20 groups will present displays, ranging from the Burma Star Veterans Association, Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association, Air Force Association of Canada, CFB Chilliwack Historical Society, 78th Fraser Highlanders and Nursing Sisters, to the Seymour Battery with their firing cannon and the Western Command Military Vehicle Historical Society with more than a dozen vintage military vehicles.

The event also features several other museums, including the Vancouver Naval Museum and Heritage Society from HMCS Discovery, and the Chinese Canadian Military Museum. The Canadian Museum of Flight will display a full size replica of a bi-plane. There are also dioramas of a First World War trench and a period recruiting depot.

A Veterans parade starts off the opening ceremony at noon. Throughout the day, there will be musical performances by various bands, including the 15th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA and Vancouver Navy Veterans band, and several pipe bands. Local resident, Mrs. Linda Jones, will take everyone back to the 1940s with a memorable rendition of wartime songs.

With over 30 veterans’ organizations, historical societies, museums and government agencies taking part, our “Salute to our Veterans” will be the largest military history event in British Columbia this year.

Everyone, including all veterans, their families and friends, is invited to BC’s most meaningful and exciting birthday celebration. Please drop by and join us in saying Happy Birthday British Columbia.

Burnaby Village Museum is located a short distance from the Trans-Canada Hwy off Canada Way, at 6501 Deer Lake Avenue in Burnaby.  If you require additional information, please contact Guy Black at (604) 937-7673 or gmblack@telus.net
